On the previous episode of Smallville, Lex killed Lionel and then he killed his child self. Clark learned about the secret within the box in Zurich through a message left to him by Lionel. Lex also snatched the key from Chloe.
According to the CW’s official press release, the episode goes like this: “ Clark desperately searches for Kara and Brainiac (guest star James Marsters), as Brainiac is the only one who can reverse Lana's condition. Clark asks Chloe to check any large power surges in the area, so she breaks into several government computers, setting off alarms. Jimmy is caught between the Department of Security - who threatens him with jail time unless he helps them arrest Chloe - and Lex, who offers to help clear Chloe if Jimmy agrees to be in his debt.”
The show’s trailer also provided viewers a sneak peek on what’s to happen next. There is a part where Lex and Clark face each other after the funeral. We hear Lex saying “When we first met, you inspired me. All I wanted was to be your friend but you turned your back on me.”
We also see a close-up of the unlocking of the box. Then Lex arrives at the entrance of the Fortress of Solitude. Kara and Clark flies up to the skies. And then there is a quick shot of Brainiac.
We also hear a voice-over of someone saying “these threats are real…someone has to protect the world.” The words were said while there’s a video of Clark holding the famous red cape, obviously pondering on his responsibilities.
Some photos posted on YouTube also showed Chloe being beaten up and tortured by a woman in red dress, apparently in her attempt to make Chloe speak up and spill some information she knew about. Then there’s a picture of Jimmy finding her.
