After starring in the successful Grey’s Anatomy spin off Private Practice, Dr. Addison Montgomery, played by Kate Walsh will once again be walking the halls of Seattle Grace Hospital . The world-class neonatal surgeon will appear in at least one of the five new episodes beginning this spring.
ABC announced Walsh’s return alongside its release of the hit medical drama’s finale date. Walsh’s character in Grey’s Anatomy was introduced towards the end of the first season as the estranged ex-wife of Derek Shepherd, on-and-off boyfriend of Grey’s Anatomy central character Meredith Grey. Walsh will be heading back to Seattle Grace to perform a delicate and groundbreaking surgery on a patient who needs her expertise. When she returns, though, she is shocked at how much the place and the people have changed.
Grey’s Anatomy executive producer Shonda Rhimes said Walsh’s return is intended to explore “the thought that you can never go home again.”
Walsh’s character has been infamous for being uncompromising and even difficult, yet since arriving at Seattle Grace, she has made friends with the other resident doctors, such as Callie Torres and Miranda Bailey, whom she often discussed love lives and relationships with.
Moreover, the Derek/Meredith/Addison love triangle had been largely popular people have a hard time believing that Addison’s role was originally conceived as a short-term one, which started out to be slated for a mere five episodes. Addison ’s interesting personality, however, caught up with the fans as they often anticipate what kind of things she will say. As Rhimes said, “[while] there are some things only Addison can do surgically, but there are also things that she can say to people that nobody else in that world will.”
