Amanda Overmyer Hits a Home Run at Wrigley Field

Author: Rob Lewis

Amanda Overmyer, American Idol season 7 finalist, sang a rousing and well-received rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" on Friday, May 9th, at historic Wrigley Field in Chicago, prior to the Arizona Diamondbacks - Chicago Cubs game.

Smiling and looking every bit the local girl in a Cubs jersey and jacket, her trademark black and white hair blowing in a chilly Chicago breeze, Overmyer stood near home plate and sang the challenging American classic acappella.

During her performance, the loud Chi-town crowd erupted several times in approval as Overmyer hit the National Anthem's power notes. Even salty Chicago Cubs field boss Lou Piniella gave her a sly grin and a wink as she left the field to a stadium-wide round of cheers and applause.

The Cubs won the afternoon contest, 3 - 1. After the game, Chicago fan Susanna Merrick commented: "Maybe we should have Amanda sing the Anthem at every home game. We just beat the Diamondbacks, the best team in baseball. I think she brought us good luck!"

Overmyer recently appeared at San Bernardino, California's Berdoo Bikes and Blues Rendezvous, one of the largest motorcycle-and-music festivals in the country. She is expected to return to the American Idol stage for the top-rated show's finale, to air live on Fox Television, Wednesday, May 21st. Also, she is in preparation for her much anticipated May 24th concert at the legendary Whisky A Go-Go in West Hollywood, and there are persistent rumors out of Los Angeles that she is in negotiations to play her lifelong inspiration Janis Joplin in an upcoming movie about the Whisky, said to go into production later this year in California.
